Ethics & Protocols

Our ethical framework describes the CCRP's purpose, values and principles, and operates as a roadmap for good decision making, and a tool for reasoning whether decisions made provide outcomes in line with CCRP values & principles.
These are signed up to by those joining the programme agree to the CCRP code of conduct agreement on all aspects of the ethical framework & ongoing discussion and incremental additions/improvements to the framework are constantly made. -
Values:
- The CCRP is committed to Open, Transparent, Non-competitive, Collaborative, Practical, Inclusive, High quality, & Generous Spirited Research.
Purpose and principles:
-We work to benefit society by providing open microspatial data on the physical & environment, to support UN SDG related problem solving and to improve the quality, efficiency, sustainability and resilience of natural landscapes and building stocks.
- We promote high ethical standards in microspatial data collection and management, identify regulatory need, & work across countries to foresee & address security & privacy concerns.
Data Ethics Policies:
- Our ethics policies guide how open microspatial data are collected, structured, visualised and released within our platforms
- Our policies also mitigate potential negative impacts of specific data release, for platform users and building occupiers.
Codes of Conduct
- Our Codes of conduct must be signed up to by platform users as well as partners to ensure the respectful operation of the platform network. These are adapted from a range of relevant existing guidelines (see below)--
Platform protocols & guidelines
- Our CCRP Protocols for Platform management are designed for CCRP academic leads managing data platforms and data, with additional protocols for the CCRP International Operations Group & CCRP Global Region Hubs
- Specific Guidelines for CCRP platforms relate to data class additions & data moderation
Other relevant frameworks:
- We draw from many other frameworks & principles including: Open Data Institute's principles for Data & Infrastructure;. The Open Knowledge Institute's Open Data Charter; The Gemini Principles for built environment data; The Locus Charter; FAIR; GDPR, The Matrix Foundation's Data Principles for decentralised secure communications, The United Nations New Urban Agenda, & The Declaration of Human Rights.
